Shelby Houlihan

I am a Mental Performance Coach with a master's degree in Sport and Performance Psychology, dedicated to helping athletes enhance their mental game. I have been passionate about running since I was 5 years old, and have experience competing at every level. Some achievements include being named the Iowa High School Gatorade Athlete of the Year in 2011, winning the NCAA 1500m Championship in 2014, competing as an Olympian in 2016, setting two American Records, earning a World Indoor Silver medal in the 3000m in 2025, and winning 14 National Track and Field Championships. My formal education, combined with my extensive sports experience, provide me with a unique perspective on performing at an elite level, which I use to help the athletes that I work with.

My Coaching Philosophy

Athlete-Centered

Every athlete is unique. I don't apply cookie-cutter solutions—I listen first, then build strategies that fit your personality, goals, and circumstances.

Evidence-Based

My methods are grounded in sport psychology research, not motivational fluff. You'll learn practical skills backed by decades of scientific study.

Process-Focused

Outcomes matter, but they're the result of consistent process. We'll build sustainable mental habits that serve you throughout your athletic career.

Collaborative

I'm not here to tell you what to think. I'm here to help you develop self-awareness and the tools to coach yourself when it counts.

Let's Work Together

Whether you're looking for individual coaching or team support, I'm here to help you build the mental edge.
